FIC Report (Borno State) – The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Borno Chapter, joins the global community to celebrate the unwavering strength, resilience, and determination of women in Borno State, Nigeria.

The Borno woman has faced immense challenges, including over 15 years of insurgency, which has posed significant dangers to human rights and devastated communities. Despite this, she remains steadfast, defending and protecting her family and community.

On this special occasion of International Women’s Day, the voices of Borno women are echoing louder than ever, calling for recognition, inclusivity, and protection. Our women are often abandoned, forcefully kidnapped, their children maimed, they are widowed, and left to bear the pain alone. They bore the brunt of the insurgency as mothers, wives, and daughters and yet often been neglected in meetings that decide her rights.

As women journalists, we amplify the voices of women and girls, highlighting issues affecting them, and advocating for policies that promote justice, equality, and inclusion. We call on all journalists and stakeholders to continue amplifying the issues of women’s rights and promote inclusivity for a better society.

The 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” emphasizes the importance of investing in women to create a stronger, more equitable society.

The NAWOJ Borno Chapter urges the government at all levels to consider the plight of women in the state and provide them with models of support that address their unique needs.
