FIC Report (Osun State) – Osun State House of Assembly through the Speaker of the house has demanded that the gubernatorial election of August 15 in the state be free, fair and credible.
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun made this known today during the Press Conference at the Osun State House of Assembly Osogbo.
The Speaker who was standby with other lawmakers frowned at the redeployment of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, “We also have credible information that further deployments of people may extend to other key officials, including the Administrative Secretary, Electoral Officers, ICT personnel etc across the State”.
“We are particularly concerned by a deliberate pattern of actions aimed at influencing the electoral process in Osun State”, alleging that Ekiti state which precedes Osun in the electoral calendar has not witnessed such widespread deployment of electoral officials”, he added.
He assured the citizens of the State that no amount of administrative changes or deployments would override the resolve of the people of the State.
The people of Osun State are politically conscious, vigilant, and determined to ensure that their votes count and reflect their true choice. All we ask for and all we insist on is a free, fair and credible election”.
He confirmed that there are reports from ijesa Senatorial District plans to compromise the process and he therefore charged the electoral officials deployed to conduct elections in the State to do so in strict accordance with the Constitution and electoral law.
He urged that the Osun State election must be free, fair and credible while any short of this would be firmly resisted by the people of the State.
He further called on the attention of international community, development partners and all observers of democratic government to do the needful as Osun State is politically aware, vigilant and deeply committed to democratic values.
He confirmed that people of the State would not accept any action from any quarters that undermines the credibility of the electoral process.
