FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Government has reiterated its unwavering stance against Cultism, Internet Fraud, and other Criminal Activities, emphasizing its determination to restore peace and security throughout the State. Under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the administration has pledged to intensify developmental efforts aimed at fostering stability and progress.
Speaking to Journalists at the Ministry of Information and Strategy on Tuesday May 19th, 2026 in Benin City, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, reaffirmed the Government’s ’s firm position on security matters. He disclosed that recent arrests have been made in connection with the brutal killing of a young man at the University of Benin (UNIBEN). Although investigations are ongoing, Afegbua assured that authorities are committed to ensuring that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice. He condemned the act, emphasizing that no grievance or circumstance justifies taking human life, and underscored the importance of sustained efforts, strategic collaboration, and public support in tackling Insecurity.
The Commissioner also lauded the Nigeria Police Force and other Security Agencies for their ongoing partnership with the Edo State Government. Through coordinated Operations and Intelligence-Led Interventions, these Agencies continue to make significant strides against Cultism, Kidnapping, and related Criminal actiAvities, reinforcing the State’s ’s resolve to create a safer environment for all residents.
On the developmental front, Afegbua highlighted the progress made under Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration. Despite the challenges posed by the rainy season, several road projects across the state are currently underway, reflecting the government’s commitment to infrastructural development. To ensure transparency and accountability, the administration has introduced quarterly performance evaluations for ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Additionally, all MDAs have been integrated into an e-governance platform designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and communication within the state’s institutions.
The Commissioner also spoke on the economic potential of Edo State, noting its rich endowment of natural resources such as limestone, gold, and newly discovered coal deposits. These resources position Edo as an attractive destination for investors and a catalyst for economic growth. Furthermore, the government has procured 50 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered buses, each with a capacity of 52 seats, to improve transportation services across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Addressing environmental concerns, Afegbua warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, highlighting that blocked drainage systems significantly contribute to erosion and flooding during heavy rains. He assured the public that ongoing road projects, including those on Temboga, Gele-Gele, Evbuotubu roads, and the Adesuwa Flyover, are designed to incorporate proper drainage systems. This integration aims to reduce flood risks and enhance infrastructure resilience.
Concluding, Prince Afegbua reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering meaningful development, improved security, and better living conditions for all Edo residents. The administration remains focused on its vision of a safer, more prosperous Edo State.
