FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – As Part of activities marking its 53rd anniversary of National Youths Service Corp Scheme,National Youth Corps member has donated food items, Pampers, clothes, and toiletries to children at the Lafia Orphanage Home to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the scheme.
The officials from the NYSC had also donated Pampers, an undisclosed amount of money, toiletries, and children’s towels, among others to the first baby born on Friday as well as other babies at the children’s wards of the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) Lafia.
Speaking during the presentation of the items in Lafia, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, Director of NYSC in charge of the North-Central Area Office, said the activities was part of activities marking its 53rd anniversary.
The Zonal Director noted that the NYSC was established in 1973 to promote national unity and youth development through a one-year mandatory service for Nigerian graduates.
“The anniversary is not just for celebration but for reflection and service and we chose to reach out to these institutions because they care for people who cannot care for themselves,” she said.
Ogbuogebe further said that the scheme has groomed professionals through the one-year mandatory service who have been doing wonderfully well in different chosen careers.
On her part, Mrs Salamatu Mohamed, Nasarawa State Coordinator of NYSC said the outreach was in line with the NYSC’s mandate of fostering unity and community development.
The state coordinator added that the scheme in the last 53 years has trained professionals who have made an impact in every sector of the country’s economy.
She appreciated the corps members for their impact through community development service in different communities and promised that the scheme would sustain its efforts to complete the developmental gaps and efforts of the government.
Also, Christiana Daniel-Okpojo and Oluwatobi Kayode, corps members who spoke on behalf of others expressed their joy for participating in the one-year mandatory service.
The duo said that the scheme has taught them how to take up responsibilities even in the most difficult situations and deliver results for the benefit of the public.
They promised to continue to put the knowledge and skills they have learned to use in the host communities and even after they serve the nation.
Receiving the items at the orphanage home and FUTH, Helen Jonathan, Health Worker at the Orphanage Home and Nurse Christiana Ayele commended NYSC for their continued support.
They noted that the donation would go a long way in supporting the children and patients, especially those in the maternity wards.
“We appreciate the NYSC for remembering us during this anniversary. Such acts of kindness strengthen the bond between the scheme and the people it serves,” they added.
Beneficiaries at both locations thanked the corps members and prayed for the continued success of the scheme.
