RMAFC Advances Revenue Allocation Review, Commences Data Verification Exercise In Imo

FIC Report (Imo State) – The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s revenue allocation system through an ongoing nationwide data verification exercise aimed at reviewing the country’s revenue-sharing framework.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mohammed Shehu, stated this during a visit to Imo State as part of the South-East phase of the exercise, which is being conducted simultaneously across the geopolitical zone.

Dr. Shehu explained that the exercise is designed to generate current and verifiable data that will support the review of Nigeria’s revenue allocation formula and ensure that statutory allocations reflect present-day realities.

According to him, significant demographic, infrastructural, and socio-economic changes have occurred across the country since the last nationwide verification exercise was conducted about a decade ago, making it necessary to obtain updated information for effective fiscal planning and resource distribution.

He noted that the exercise represents the fourth phase of a nationwide programme, with three geopolitical zones already having completed the verification process.

The RMAFC Chairman assured stakeholders that the exercise would be conducted with professionalism, transparency, and objectivity, adding that personnel deployed for the assignment were carefully selected and adequately trained to ensure credibility and integrity throughout the process.

He further emphasized that the outcome of the exercise would contribute significantly to the development of a more equitable, responsive, and evidence-based revenue allocation system capable of supporting national development objectives.

Receiving the delegation in Owerri, Governor Hope Uzodimma commended the Commission for undertaking the exercise and described it as a timely initiative capable of strengthening confidence in Nigeria’s revenue allocation process.

The Governor stressed the importance of accurate data collection and verification in ensuring fairness and transparency in the distribution of national resources. He also called for the adoption of modern technology and global best practices in monitoring and verifying crude oil and gas production across the country.

Governor Uzodimma reaffirmed the commitment of the Imo State Government to supporting the Commission and pledged the state’s full cooperation to ensure the success of the exercise.

The Commission also acknowledged the support and cooperation received from the Imo State Government, noting that collaboration with state governments, ministries, agencies, and local government authorities remains essential to the successful implementation of the nationwide programme.

The ongoing verification exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen fiscal governance, improve revenue administration, and promote equitable resource allocation for sustainable national development.
