Inspector-General of Police Orders Crackdown as Kwara Begins Enforcement Against Covered, Defaced Number Plates

FIC Report (Kwara State) – The Kwara State Police Command has announced the commencement of a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles operating with covered, obscured, altered, defaced, unauthorized, or missing registration number plates. The operation, which takes effect from Monday, June 15, 2026, is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening security and public safety.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and the State Traffic Officer have been directed to commence full enforcement across the state and ensure strict compliance.

The Commissioner warned that any vehicle found in violation of the directive would be impounded and subjected to investigation in accordance with the law. He stressed that no individual or organization would receive special treatment, as the enforcement would be carried out fairly and without compromise.

Motorists are advised to remove any coverings or obstructions on their number plates and ensure they display only valid and clearly visible registration plates. The Command said the exercise is intended to improve vehicle identification, aid criminal investigations, track fleeing suspects, and prevent the use of concealed vehicles for criminal activities.
