Edo Police Recover Suspected Stolen Vehicles, Arrest Two Suspects During Stop-and-Search Operation

FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Police Command has announced the recovery of suspected stolen vehicles and the arrest of two suspects during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by operatives attached to the Textile Mill Road (TMR) Division.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, on 22 June 2026, police operatives on routine checkpoint duty along Siluko Road, Benin City, intercepted a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, ash in colour, bearing registration number GBZ 646 YK (Edo State).

Preliminary examination revealed that the vehicle’s registration documents presented by the driver were forged.

Further investigations established that the vehicle belongs to Dr. Timothy Etinosa, who had entrusted it to one Emmanuel Afolayan under a hire-purchase agreement. The investigation further revealed that Emmanuel Afolayan allegedly absconded with the vehicle in 2024, forged its registration documents, and subsequently sold it.

The driver of the vehicle, Mr. Ezikiel Aguele, aged 46, was arrested and, during interrogation, assisted police operatives in apprehending the principal suspect, Emmanuel Afolayan. The operation also led to the recovery of another vehicle believed to have been stolen through a similar scheme.

The Edo State Police Command disclosed that both suspects have confessed to the alleged offences and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, commended the vigilance, professionalism, and dedication of the officers involved in the operation. He reiterated that stop-and-search operations remain a proactive policing strategy that continues to support crime prevention, facilitate the recovery of stolen property, and enhance the arrest of criminal suspects.

The Commissioner further urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information to strengthen ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across Edo State.
