Nasarawa State Government Approves N500 Million Counterpart Fund to Combat Child Malnutrition in The State

FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa State has approved a counterpart matching fund of N500 million to support efforts aimed at addressing the growing challenge of child malnutrition across the state.

The governor announced the approval while receiving a delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at the Government House, Lafia.

The UNICEF delegation was led by the Chief of Field Office, Kaduna, Dr. Gerida Birukila, who was in the state on an advocacy visit to strengthen collaboration with the Nasarawa State Government on child health and nutrition interventions.

Governor Sule reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and vulnerable groups, stressing that the counterpart funding would enhance ongoing efforts to tackle malnutrition and improve healthcare delivery across the state.

The UNICEF delegation was led to the Government House by the Executive Secretary of NAPHDA, Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh who said the visit was also to express appreciation to the governor for his administration’s support during the recently conducted Integrated Health Camp.

The Executive Secretary further presented the report of the health outreach exercise to the governor, highlighting the impact of the intervention and the importance of sustained government support in expanding access to quality healthcare services.

Dr. Birukila commended the Nasarawa State Government for its commitment to child health programmes and expressed optimism that the approved counterpart fund would significantly boost efforts to reduce child malnutrition and improve nutrition outcomes in the state.

The visit underscored the continued partnership between UNICEF and the Nasarawa State Government in promoting the health, nutrition and overall well-being of children and families across the state.
