The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Northwest Development Commission, NWDC, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji today welcomed members of the Board Subcommittee on Establishment, Governance and Human Resources during their inaugural oversight visit to the Commission in Kano.
The meeting marked the first joint engagement between the subcommittee and NWDC management, aimed at aligning on key institutional requirements for the effective commencement of the Commission’s mandate across the seven Northwest states.
In his remarks, the MD/CEO expressed appreciation to the subcommittee for its commitment and presence, noting that their oversight function is critical at this foundational stage of the Commission.
“On behalf of the management, I sincerely appreciate your presence and your commitment to ensuring that this organization is properly positioned to fulfill its mandate. Your oversight role is particularly important at this stage, as we work towards establishing a strong institutional foundation and ensuring effective commencement of our full activities,” the MD/CEO said.
The MD/CEO identified personnel and human resources as a key area requiring the subcommittee’s guidance. He emphasized that a competent, motivated, and adequately structured workforce is essential for the success of any organization.
“We look forward to your guidance and recommendations on our staffing structure, manpower requirements, capacity development, deployment, and other human resources matters necessary for effective service delivery,” he stated.
He further highlighted office accommodation and workspace as another priority. According to him, adequate office facilities are critical to creating a conducive working environment and enabling staff to perform efficiently.
“We will appreciate the subcommittee’s consideration of our current and projected space requirements, as well as the necessary infrastructure and facilities to support our operations,” the MD/CEO added.
The MD/CEO also stressed the Commission’s focus on readiness to take off and commence full activities, noting that this requires coordinated decisions on staffing, office facilities, operational procedures, and logistics.
He welcomed the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Dr. Yahaya Aminu, and other members, and called for continued collaboration to ensure NWDC is properly staffed, equipped, and structured to deliver on its mandate of accelerating development in Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
The subcommittee is expected to review NWDC’s proposals and provide recommendations to the Governing Board to strengthen the Commission’s institutional and human resource framework.
The Northwest Development Commission was established to drive infrastructure development and human capital investment in Northwest Nigeria. The Commission’s mandate covers the seven states of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara, with focus on agriculture, education, health, enterprise development, and institutional strengthening.
