FIC Report (Ogun State) – The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening agricultural productivity and ensuring food security through strategic collaborations aimed at providing farmers with essential agricultural inputs.
This commitment was reaffirmed during the launch of a fertiliser distribution programme organised in partnership with the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) in Asero, Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, represented by the Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Leke Otegbeye, described the initiative as a timely intervention designed to ease the burden of rising production costs and improve farmers’ access to quality fertilisers.
According to the Commissioner, agriculture remains a critical pillar of economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction. He noted that increasing access to quality farm inputs for smallholder farmers would enhance crop yields, improve incomes and contribute to sustainable agricultural development across Ogun State.
Owotomo explained that the fertiliser support programme aligns with the agricultural development agenda of Governor Dapo Abiodun, which focuses on strengthening food production, empowering farmers and promoting rural economic development. He assured stakeholders that the distribution process would be transparent and fair, with priority given to smallholder farmers who form the backbone of the state’s agricultural sector.
He encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the fertilisers to improve productivity and contribute to the state’s drive toward food sufficiency. The Commissioner also commended the National Agricultural Development Fund for its continued support of agricultural development, describing the partnership as a significant step toward boosting productivity and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
Representing the National Agricultural Development Fund, Mr. Oluwatoyin Vaughn stated that the fertilizer distribution initiative supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by increasing food production in Ogun State and across Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of Ajegunle Farm Settlement, Mr. Rotimi Sogunle, expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government and NADF for the intervention. He described the fertiliser support as timely, noting that it would reduce production costs, improve farm output and enhance the livelihoods of farmers throughout the state.
