FIC Report (Ogun State) – The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained investment in technology-driven security initiatives and enhanced logistics support for security agencies across the state.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this during a strategic security meeting with the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South-West, DIG Fayoade Adegoke, who paid a courtesy visit to the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The Governor was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
Speaking at the meeting, the Governor stressed that the protection of citizens remains a top priority. He noted that emerging security challenges require innovative, technology-based solutions beyond conventional policing. “As a government, we recognise that tackling insecurity has gone beyond traditional means. We have scaled up our technology-driven approach and remain ready to support the Police in every way possible,” he said.
Governor Abiodun highlighted the recent procurement of 65 patrol vehicles to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies. He explained that the investment is part of a broader strategy to secure Ogun’s borders, protect its industrial hubs, and deny criminal elements any safe haven. He also commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ojajuni, for his dedication and professionalism, describing his contributions as instrumental to the successes recorded under the Gateway Shield security initiative.
To deepen collaboration, the Governor proposed a follow-up meeting to develop concrete and actionable strategies that will strengthen the state’s security framework and effectively respond to evolving threats.
Earlier, DIG Fayoade Adegoke underscored the need for an urgent transition to technology-driven policing to address cross-border crimes. He described Ogun State as a critical economic hub whose security is of national importance. While acknowledging the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force under the Inspector General of Police, he noted that Ogun’s strategic location and international borders require specialised interventions.
The DIG commended the state government for its support and called for increased investment in modern surveillance equipment, advanced drones, and rugged patrol vehicles for difficult border terrains. “The need for this upgrade is very urgent. We must shift our attention and resources toward our international borders to ensure that criminal elements do not find a foothold in our communities,” he stated.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by both the Ogun State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen intelligence-led policing, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and sustain investments in modern security infrastructure to keep Ogun State safe, secure, and conducive to industrial growth.
