FUTO VC Reaffirms Commitment To Peaceful Coexistence With Host Communities

FIC Report (Imo State) – The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Professor Ikechukwu N.S. Dozie, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with its host communities through sustained dialogue, mutual respect and collaborative development.

Professor Dozie made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the traditional rulers and leaders of Eziobodo and Eziokele host communities, where he described the communities as indispensable stakeholders in the growth, stability and continued success of the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the community leaders that his administration would maintain an open-door policy anchored on regular consultation, transparency and peaceful resolution of issues affecting both the University and its host communities.

He called for greater cooperation in protecting Federal Government assets within the University by discouraging illegal activities such as land encroachment, theft, vandalism, illegal mining and dredging. According to him, safeguarding the University’s lands and facilities is a shared responsibility that will benefit both FUTO and the surrounding communities.

Professor Dozie further stressed that peaceful coexistence between the University and its host communities remains essential to the institution’s continued advancement in teaching, research, innovation and national development.

The community leaders, in their separate remarks, welcomed the Vice-Chancellor’s outreach and pledged their continued support and cooperation in sustaining the cordial relationship that has existed between the University and its host communities.

The visit concluded with a renewed commitment by both the University and the host communities to deepen collaboration in promoting peace, security and sustainable development, while preserving the conducive environment required for FUTO to continue fulfilling its mandate as one of Nigeria’s foremost federal universities of technology.
