The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging **Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to drive national development, describing a robust national identity system as essential to a secure digital economy, efficient public service delivery and inclusive economic growth.
The Minister stated this while receiving the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during a courtesy visit to his office.
Dr. Udeh noted that digital identity is the foundation of a modern digital economy, strengthening governance, financial inclusion, cybersecurity, research and innovation. He said stronger collaboration between FMIST and NIMC would accelerate the deployment of emerging technologies, improve service delivery and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Earlier, Engr. Coker-Odusote said the visit was to strengthen collaboration between both institutions and explore new opportunities to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation. She reaffirmed NIMC’s commitment to building a secure, inclusive and efficient national identity system that supports digital governance and seamless access to public services.
She expressed confidence that closer collaboration with FMIST would strengthen digital public infrastructure, accelerate technology adoption and foster innovative solutions for sustainable national development.
The meeting ended with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to advancing digital identity, promoting innovation-driven governance and building a more secure, inclusive and digitally enabled Nigeria.
