The Federal Government has officially released the results of the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for admission into Junior Secondary School One (JSS 1) of the nation’s 83 Federal Unity Colleges and the Federal Government Academy (FGA), Suleja, reaffirming its commitment to merit-based admissions, transparency, equity and the continued strengthening of the Unity Colleges as symbols of national integration and academic excellence.
Speaking during the official presentation of the results in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, described the National Common Entrance Examination as a critical national assessment that provides qualified Nigerian children with access to quality secondary education while promoting national cohesion through the enduring motto of the Federal Unity Colleges, Pro Unitate (For Unity).
Professor Ahmad disclosed that 60,357 candidates registered for the 2026 examination conducted on Saturday, 6 June 2026, across the 36 states of the Federation, the Federal Capital Territory, as well as designated centres in the Republic of Benin and Togo. Of this number, 56,950 candidates sat for the examination, while 3,407 were absent.
She announced that, out of the maximum obtainable score of 210, 10 candidates emerged as the highest scorers with 202 marks, while 82 candidates recorded the lowest score of one.
The Minister also released the results of the entrance examination into the Federal Government Academy (FGA), Suleja, Nigeria’s premier school for gifted children. She revealed that 2,071 candidates registered, 1,876 sat for the examination, while 195 were absent. The highest score recorded was 187 out of 210, representing 89.05 per cent, while the lowest score was four.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to fairness and transparency, Professor Ahmad stated that admissions into the Federal Unity Colleges will continue to be guided by the approved criteria of 60 per cent Merit, 30 per cent Equality of States and 10 per cent Exigency. She directed the Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education to conclude the admission process promptly and strictly in accordance with the approved guidelines.
The Minister further assured parents and other stakeholders that the Federal Government remains committed to sustained investments in infrastructure, improved student welfare, quality feeding and teacher development to provide a more conducive learning environment and further strengthen the quality of education in the Unity Colleges.
Responding to questions from journalists, Professor Ahmad explained that the National Common Entrance Examination is open to eligible Nigerian children between the ages of 10 and 12 years and is conducted nationwide, including designated centres outside Nigeria.
She added that admission into the Federal Government Academy, Suleja, is based strictly on outstanding performance in the examination.
Earlier, the Director of the Senior Secondary Education Department, Mr. Adeniji Ibrahim, welcomed participants and described the public presentation of the results as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and credibility in the admission process into the Federal Unity Colleges and the Federal Government Academy.
Also speaking, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, formally presented the results to the Honourable Minister of State on behalf of the Governing Board, Management and Staff of the Council. He commended the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support, which ensured the successful conduct of the examinations and the timely release of the results.
The Federal Government reaffirmed that admissions into the Federal Unity Colleges will continue to uphold the principles of merit, equity and fairness while sustaining investments in infrastructure, teacher quality, student welfare and institutional development to preserve the colleges as enduring centres of excellence, national integration and unity in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
