FIC Report (Akwa Ibom State) – Akwa Ibom State announced the commencement of the Electronic Civil Registration and vital statistics (e.CRVS ) system. This initiatives is in line with the directives of the Commission that the Chairman of the national Press briefing of 15th July 2026 be replicated across the state to implement the digital registration of births, deaths, attestation of birth and other civil registration services on the vital Registration platform.
At the presentation, the Honourable Federal Commissioner Representing Akwa Ibom State on the National Population Commission Chief (Engr) Benedict Ukpong FNSE (OketeOkete Oro) disclosed that this is to ensure reliability, security nationwide.
He also mentioned that, the platform is being operated under a public private partnership (PPP) arrangement with Banksforte technology limited a Nigerian Information technology solutions provider servicing as Commission technical partner. The company is responsible for ensuring continuous system availability cyber security protection and ongoing technology improvement administration process and will provide the foundation for reliable national statistics that guides public policy resources allocation and development planning.
The system is to build a modern efficient and technology driven civil registration system that meets the international standards and support Mr President Renewed Hope Agenda. This innovation represents one of the most transformative reforms in history of Civil Registration in Nigeria and indeed Akwa Ibom State.
Moreso the Commission is committed to leveraging technology to improve service delivery, strengthening data integrity and ensure that every birth registration birth attestation, death registration and other vital events occuring in Nigeria accurately and securely documented in digital form. This exercise is far more better than an administrative process and will provide the foundation for a reliable national statistics that guides public policy, resource allocation and development planning.
According to Chief Benedict, he further stressed that beyond technology a successful implementation requires strong collaboration, accordingly, the National Population has signed a partnership compact on the decentralization and localisation of Birth Registration and legal identity with the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) UNICEF and Banksforte technology Limited.
Benedict called on all the stakeholders in the state and every Nigerian to embrace the programme to record a greater success. He called on Akwa Ibom State chapter of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education, the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health, Akwa Ibom State Primary Health Care Development Agency. ( AKSPHCDA) Bureau of Political and Social Reorientation, Traditional and Religious institution civil society organisation and indeed all indigene and residents of Akwa Ibom State to work closely with the National Population Commission to ensure that every birth, death, other vital events are registered promptly.
National Population appeal to the Akwa Ibom State Government to support the full roll out of the electronic Civil Registration and vital Statistic ( E. CRVS) system across the State for the provision of demographic data and supports and effective governnance base planning.
