FIC Report (Bayelsa State) – The Bayelsa State Police Command will join the global community in commemorating the 2026 International Youth Day with a three-day Police–Youth Engagement Programme scheduled to hold from Thursday, August 20, to Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The programme is in line with the vision and directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aimed at strengthening Police–Youth relations, promoting responsible citizenship, preventing crime, and enhancing peace and community safety.
Organised under the National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative, the programme is themed: “Celebrating Excellence – Recognising Today’s Heroes, Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
Activities will commence on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with a Police–Youth Walkathon from the Bayelsa State Police Command Headquarters to Ekeki Park, Yenagoa.
The walk is designed to promote unity, deepen mutual understanding between the Police and young people, create public awareness, and encourage meaningful youth participation in community policing and crime prevention.
The main engagement will take place on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Government House Banquet Hall, Onopa, Yenagoa. The event will bring together youths, security stakeholders, community and traditional leaders, civil society organisations, and other relevant partners for strategic discussions on youth leadership, security, responsible citizenship, and nation-building.
The three-day programme will culminate on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with the launch of the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery, themed: “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery.”
The campaign will be complemented by a Police–Youth Dialogue Session aimed at building mutual trust, promoting responsible digital citizenship, discouraging youth involvement in political violence and online criminality, and developing collaborative solutions to emerging security challenges.
The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, psc, mnips, has called on youths, parents, traditional and community leaders, civil society organisations, security stakeholders, and members of the public to actively participate in the programme.
He urged stakeholders to support the Command’s efforts to positively harness the energy, creativity, and leadership potential of young people towards crime prevention, peacebuilding, community development, and national progress.
The Bayelsa State Police Command remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the youth and other stakeholders in building a safer, more peaceful, and secure society for all.
