FIC Report (Zamfara State) – The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food security has distributed 46 Metric Tones of certified seeds as an intervention to support 4,500 farmers in Zamfara State under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The program was flagged off in Gusau by the Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Food security, Senator Abubakar Kyari who represented by the Director Rabiu Dahiru.
The Minister stated that the Renewed Hope seed support program intervention was designed to strengthen farmers access to quality, climate smart improved seeds and support Agricultural productivity and food security saying that the quality of the seed planted determines to a significant extent the farmers productivity and profitability.
“That is why the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR continues to place Agricultural transformation and food security at the centre of the Renewed Hope Agenda” he said.
The Minister stated that the intervention through the Nation Agricultural seeds council in collaboration with Zamfara State Government provided 22 Metric Tones of certified cowpea seed and 24 metric tones of certified G/nut seeds making 46 metric tones for 4,600 farmers across Zamfara State.
He commended the effort of the state Government saying that it demonstrates the importance of partnership between the Federal Government and state Government towards achieving sustainable food and nutrition under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Earlier, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Ya’u Haruna Gamji stated that the Federal Government intervention was to support farmers affected by the prolonged dry spell that followed the early onset of the 2026 rainy season.
The Governor stated that the state allocated more than 10% of its annual budget in 2022-2026 to Agricultural sector to compliment the comprehensive African Agricultural program adding that the state reached to procuring additional 250 units of Tractors and partnership with the Republic of Turkey for a 100 USD intervention.
He commended the Federal Government for the intervention and assured all necessary support to improve the Agricultural sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda urging also the beneficiaries to collaborate with the extension agents to transform the challenges in to opportunities.
