FIC Report (Niger State) – The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the safe release of persons abducted in Dakare, Borgu Local Government Area, assuring that every necessary measure is being taken to rescue the victims.
The State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barrister Maurice Magaji, gave the assurance during an interaction with journalists on the security situation across the State.
Magaji said the government was working in close coordination with security agencies and providing the required support and logistics to facilitate the rescue of the victims.
He stressed that the fight against banditry and other security threats requires the collective efforts of government, security agencies, communities and the media.
The Commissioner therefore urged the media to continue supporting security efforts through responsible reporting and effective collaboration with relevant authorities.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible and timely information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
According to him, security remains a fundamental requirement for meaningful development, noting that no government can achieve sustainable progress in an atmosphere of insecurity.
Magaji further disclosed that the State Government, in partnership with security agencies, had established a Security Situation Information Room to provide journalists with regular updates on security developments in the State.
He explained that the platform would also provide an avenue for feedback and improve communication and coordination among stakeholders towards achieving better security outcomes.
Also speaking, the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the Inspector-General of Police had directed the mobilization and deployment of additional personnel and specialized units to support the rescue operation.
He listed the deployed assets to include police tactical teams, counter-terrorism units, the Police Air Wing and other specialized formations, all working alongside other security agencies.
The PPRO added that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, was already on the ground to coordinate the various operational assets of the Police and the State Government, with the aim of intensifying efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
SP Abiodun explained that the exact number of persons abducted had yet to be established, noting that security agencies were collaborating with members of the affected communities to verify the number of victims.
He commended the Niger State Government for providing the necessary logistical support to aid the ongoing operation, adding that rescue efforts had already commenced.
The Police spokesperson also disclosed that a tactical team deployed to Agwara had recovered the remains of the District Head of Gallah in Agwara Local Government Area.
He said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
On when the kidnapped victims would be rescued, SP Abiodun described the operation as a delicate and highly technical exercise that requires careful planning and execution.
He explained that security personnel must rely on intelligence gathering, thorough analysis and appropriate operational strategies to ensure that the victims are rescued safely and without harm.
