The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the full automation of the evaluation and authentication of academic certificates, marking a major milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing digital transformation of Nigeria’s education sector.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, said the initiative represents a significant step towards building a more efficient, transparent, accessible and globally competitive education administration system, in line with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Under the new system, applicants seeking evaluation and authentication of their academic credentials are no longer required to visit the Federal Ministry of Education physically. The entire process can now be completed online through the Ministry’s dedicated portal, thereby reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, improving service delivery and making the process more convenient for Nigerians and other applicants within and outside the country.
The Minister explained that the automation is part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to deploying technology to modernise education governance, strengthen institutional efficiency and provide citizen-centred public services.
According to him, the reform will significantly improve the speed and transparency of credential evaluation while strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s academic certification system. It will also enhance the ability of relevant institutions, employers and other stakeholders to; authenticate academic qualifications through a more structured and reliable process.
Dr. Alausa noted that the reform is particularly important in an increasingly digital and globally connected environment where the credibility, accessibility and timely verification of academic credentials are critical to educational progression, employment, professional practice and international opportunities.
He stressed that the Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to ensuring that digital innovation is deployed not only to improve learning outcomes but also to transform the systems and processes that support the education sector.
The automated service is accessible through the Federal Ministry of Education’s official credential evaluation and authentication platform atessverify.education.gov.ng, while enquiries and related correspondence can be directed to
ess1@education.gov.ng.
The Ministry advised applicants to make use of the online platform and follow the prescribed procedures, stressing that physical visits to the Ministry for the evaluation and authentication of academic credentials are no longer necessary.
The development further demonstrates the Federal Government’s determination to eliminate unnecessary administrative hurdles, promote transparency and accountability, and improve the overall experience of citizens accessing government services.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the initiative complements other ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s education sector through digitalisation, innovation and improved service delivery.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by delivering education reforms that are responsive to the needs of citizens, strengthen national institutions and position Nigeria to compete effectively in the global knowledge economy.
The Minister urged applicants and stakeholders to embrace the new digital process, describing the initiative as part of the Ministry’s continuing efforts to build a more efficient, transparent, technology-driven and citizen-focused education system.
The Federal Ministry of Education will continue to review and improve the platform to ensure seamless service delivery, protect the integrity of academic credentials and further advance the digital transformation of Nigeria’s education administration.
