FIC REPORT (ANAMBRA STATE) – The Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria Scientific Conference has kicked off in Awka, Anambra State capital with a call on members of the association to continue to promote professionalism and give direct assess to members of their communities so that everyone especially those in the hard to reach areas could get quality health care.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo made the call while declaring the conference open at the ASUU Secretariat, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka which was attended by members of the association from all the six geopolitical Zones of the country.

The event which also serves as an annual general meeting of the association with the theme “Enhancing Community Based Health Services Through The Health Care Provision Fund: The essential role of Community Health Practitioners”.

Addressing the Community Health Practitioners, Governor Soludo represented by the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Agency, Dr Chizoba Ezeasor, who stressed the need for the practitioners to continue to see the underserved communities as their priority just as Governor Soludo is doing, recalled that Governor Soludo granted free antenatal and delivery in public hospitals across the State,employed health personnel to primary health centres across the State and General Hospitals, built five brand new General hospitals in Anambra North senatorial district ensure training and retraining of health workers, completed ultra modern Trauma Centre at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, and appreciated wife of the Governor, Dr Nonye for complementing what the Governor is doing through her healthy living with Nonye Soludo campaign.

He wished them fruitful deliberations as they brainstorm on how to take their profession to the next level.

Speaking Earlier, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria, Professor Bashir Jama’a advised the practitioners to add value to their profession and upgrade their knowledge, highlighting various steps taken by the Board to provide Community Health Practitioners opportunities to go higher in acquiring advanced degrees in their profession even as he charged them to make their jobs their priority and to always work with their colleagues and others in other medical profession.

The Guest speaker, Professor Chris Imumolem, who traced his journey in education urged them to allow the will of God to prevail in their lives by utilising their present opportunity to upgrade themselves and proposed ownership of clinics as an empowerment scheme to some members of the profession especially those who find it hard to practice and made it clear that they should not forget that their job is to ensure that health care services are given to underserved communities in all parts of the country.

The President of the association, Comrade Kabir Ahmed represented by the Deputy National President, Dr Nengi Brown, said that the Federal government in 2014 established the basic need provisional fund to ensure that poor and vulnerable Nigerians have assess to quality health care, calling on those in authority to support Community Health Practitioners to be strong so as to have healthy communities members and a viable society, while Anambra State Chairperson of the association, Mrs Chinyere Edeh, expressed happiness that Anambra State is hosting the event for the first time and appreciated Governor Soludo for all he is doing in the health sector for the benefit of Ndi Anambra.

The event featured welcome song, Ogene music dance as well as presentation of awards to distinguish members of the association.
