2027: Imo APC Mobilisation Group Credits Tinubu's Programmes For Grassroot Support

FIC REPORT (IMO STATE) – The Imo State Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Hon. Julius Egewusi, has declared the group’s commitment to mobilizing grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing what he described as the impact of federal government programmes across the state.

Chief Egewusi, said the movement would leverage its structures across Imo State to promote the Tinubu administration’s policies, and campaign for the president’s second term in office.

In a statement, he identified interventions in education, social welfare, skills acquisition, financial support and infrastructure as key reasons for the group’s political mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He stated that more than 40,000 Imo indigenes had benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), including students of Imo State University (IMSU), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and other institutions.

According to Hon.Egewusi, the students loan scheme is helping young people access higher education without being compelled to discontinue their studies because of financial constraints.

He further stressed that over 50,000 households in the state had been captured under conditional cash transfer programmes, with reported payments ranging from ₦25,000 to ₦75,000.

The APC mobilization coordinator also listed Orsu, Oru East, Oru West, Isu, Njaba, Nwangele, Ideato North and South, Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma, Obowo, Ngor Okpala and Mbaitoli among the local government areas where households were reportedly benefiting.

Chief Egewusi further pointed to financial assistance for market women and small-scale traders, alongside youth-focused initiatives such as the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, Skill-Up Artisans and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative.

He said the Consumer Credit Scheme was providing eligible beneficiaries with opportunities to acquire items such as tricycles, motorcycles, freezers and mobile phones through structured payment arrangements.

Regarding road infrastructure, he listed the Owerri-Aba, Owerri-Onitsha, Owerri-Port Harcourt, Owerri-Okigwe, Owerri-Orlu, Orlu-Ideato-Uga, Orsu-Ihiala and Okigwe-Umuahia roads as examples of projects that demonstrated federal government involvement in the state.

He added that some communities had equally benefited from solar streetlights, boreholes and classroom blocks, while rural electrification projects were being undertaken in parts of Imo.

The proposed dredging of Oguta Lake and the Orashi River according to the coordinator could also stimulate commercial activities and economic development in oil-producing communities.

Addressing the movement’s communication strategy, he mentioned that the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement had established structures in all 27 local government areas, 305 wards and 4,758 polling units in the state, adding that the structures would serve as the foundation for an extensive grassroots campaign towards the 2027 elections.

He then reaffirmed the group’s support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, Governor Uzodimma’s senatorial ambition in Orlu Zone and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
