In a major move to institutionalise continuous public service improvement, the SERVICOM Office, Presidency, has inaugurated the newly appointed Ministerial SERVICOM Committee (MSC) members for the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs (FMSDIGA).
The high-profile inauguration event, held on Thursday, 29th October, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, featured high-level addresses from the SERVICOM National Coordinator, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and the newly appointed head of the Committee.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Ag. National Coordinator and CEO of SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal, the Head of Operations, Mrs. Ngozi Akinbodewa, commended the Ministry’s leadership for championing proactive administrative changes. She noted that the establishment of the committee marked a critical step toward sustaining the Service Delivery Initiative (SDI) and aligning public sector operations with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.

“SERVICOM is an initiative of the Federal Government conceived to promote effective and efficient service delivery in MDAs to ensure customer satisfaction and manage the performance-expectation gap between Government and citizens.” Mrs. Lawal stated.
Emphasising that the primary purpose of government was to improve the quality of life for citizens, Mrs. Lawal underscored that public service must focus heavily on the quality of contact between service providers and service takers.
“As public servants, service is what we offer ourselves for and service is what the people are entitled to expect from us.” She highlighted. She further stated that “citizens today have higher expectations due to increased access to information, and they have the right to be served right.”

To achieve the Ministry’s vision of championing nation-building through social harmony and sustainable development, Mrs. Lawal charged the newly inaugurated committee, comprising officers from technical departments such as Projects and Programmes, Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Special Duties, to actively monitor zonal interventions, review the Ministry’s Service Charter, conduct satisfaction surveys, and manage customer feedback mechanisms. She also urged management to appoint a substantive Nodal Officer and invest heavily in continuous staff capacity building and stakeholder collaboration.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr. Onwusoro Maduka I., described the inauguration as an epoch-making event that solidified management’s total buy-in. Declaring himself a deeply service-oriented person, Dr. Maduka emphasised that efficiency and equity must be felt across all cadres of officers and visitors to the Ministry alike.
“It is about ensuring that both the employees and visitors to the Ministry get to be served well, knowing our mandates and speaking to the mandate such that our customers are well served within set timelines and that complaints are quickly escalated for prompt resolution.” Dr. Maduka remarked. He challenged the newly inaugurated committee to swing into action immediately.

Accepting the charge on behalf of the team, the Head of the Ministerial SERVICOM Committee, Mr. Boniface Uji, expressed profound gratitude to the Permanent Secretary and Directors for their presence. He assured management and the SERVICOM Presidency that the committee will work cohesively to fulfill its mandate, closely collaborate with the central SERVICOM Office for institutional guidance, and elevate the Ministry’s service delivery standards to unprecedented heights.
The well-attended event, which drew directors, newly inaugurated committee members, and the SERVICOM Presidency team, concluded with a shared resolution to bridge the performance-expectation gap, ensure transparent project monitoring at the grassroots, and firmly establish citizen-centric governance across all units of the Ministry.
