Abia Community Sends SOS As Erosion Collapses Buildings

The people of Amamba Uzuakoli in Bende LGA of Abia State are appealing to the State and Federal Governments to come to the rescue of the community over an erosion threat which has submerged the area.

Speaking at the gully site, the President General of Amamba Community, Elder Chilasa Kanu explained that over five buildings including upstairs have been pulled down by the gully.

According to the President General, the agrarian community has spent over forty million Naira on interventions of the gully and explained that recent developments on the site as a result of constant rainfall and flooding made the situation go beyond their financial strength.

He reiterated that lots of persons have abandoned their houses in the community due to the erosion, and expressed optimism that the State Governor Alex Otti would come to their rescue.

Also speaking, another Elder in the community Mr Chikezie Ogbonna, explained further that the community is now living in fear as the rainy season continues adding that it is only the Government intervention that would save the community presently as it stands.
