Abia receives palliatives from Organisations to assist the less privileged

Abia State Deputy State Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has commended the State NYSC members for complimenting Government’s efforts in the fight against the COVID 19 pandemic by producing protective materials through skills they acquired during the Orientation Training Programme in the State.

Sir Oko Chukwu who made the commendation when he on behalf of the State Government received Sanitizers and Face Masks produced by Corps Members serving in the State donated to the Committee on COVID 19 held at the Conference Room of the SSG Umuahia.

He described their efforts in producing the materials in the very prevailing circumstances of the Lockdown as very well appreciated and assured that Government will assist them produce more to enable the items get to more Abians.

The Deputy Governor used the forum to list out measures Government had taken so far in trying to break the chain of transmission of the COVID 19 pandemic from penetrating Abia through sensitizing the people on the need to observe a high level of hygiene by washing of their hands with soaps under running water, wearing of facemasks and applying sanitizers as well as imposing of total lockdown to prevent the virus from getting into the State, through neighboring states.

He disclosed that the present administration under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu came up with palliative measures to help cushion the effect of the hardships brought by the lockdown through churches and mosques which will be extended to Development Unions and Traditional rulers across the state and appealed to Abians to adhere strictly to the laid down rule’s to enable the State sustain its COVID 19 free record.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the Team and State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Bona Fasakin who extolled the State Government and the Committee 19 for proactive ways they have been managing the COVID 19 pandemic as no case has been recorded in the State pointed out that in line with their social and collective responsibilities, the NYSC management tasked corps members across the 17 LGAs to produce the protective materials which are all tested and locally made as away of helping out in the fight against the Corona Virus.

Similarly, the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu also lauded the management of the Second Coming Gas Plant for assisting Government cushion the effect of the lockdown on Abians through the distribution of free cooking gas to Abia residents.

The Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu who made the commendation when he received on behalf of Government the Management of Second Coming Gas Plant who came to announce a donation of free distillation of 35000 litres of gas to Abians as their contribution and corporate social responsibility in the fight against the COVID 19 pandemic.

Speaking earlier, the Management of Second Coming Gas Plant, Dr. Basil Ogbanu represented by Mr. Eke Maduabuchi said they will be distributing 35000 litres of cooking at the cost of 5.5 million naira to residents of Abia at their Lodu Ndume gas plant in support of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in combating the COVID 19 pandemic.

Sir Oko Chukwu used the occasion in company of the SSG Mr. Chris Ezem and members of the COVID 19 Committee to inspect materials and equipment for the fumigation of markets places and public arenas in the State at the premises of the International Conference Centre, Ogurube Layout.
