In a significant boost to Nigeria’s media sector, renowned philanthropist Sir (Dr.) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Media Resource Centre at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ikeja, Lagos, a facility expected to strengthen Nigeria’s media sector and deliver economic benefits.
This landmark facility, funded by Dr. Adebutu is poised to enhance the institution’s training capabilities, equipping students and professionals with cutting-edge resources.
The 350-seat auditorium, founded in 1971, did not only strengthen NIJ’s position as a leading institution in Nigerian media education, but also, the new resource centre, alongside its existing ICT hub and studio facilities, positions NIJ as a regional leader, with the potential to attract international partnerships and support Nigeria’s knowledge-driven economy.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, a former member of the board of the NIJ, praised Dr. Adebutu’s contributions, noting that the centre exemplifies vital infrastructure improvements that drive economic growth.
With its enhanced ICT hub and studio facilities, NIJ is now positioned as a regional leader, attracting international partnerships and supporting Nigeria’s knowledge-driven economy.
Dr. Adebutu’s visionary gift is set to transform Nigeria’s media landscape, fostering a skilled workforce, job creation, and economic growth.
