Ag. ED, NIWRMC Urges Bulk Water Users for Commercial Purposes to Apply for Licence

The Acting Executive Director, Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), Mrs. Sakinatu Abbo Jimeta has urged bulk water users for commercial purposes to apply for Water Use Licence as stipulated by the Federal Government.

She stated this when she received the representatives of Nigerian Breweries PLC who were on a familiarization visit to the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, Jimeta admonished Nigerian Breweries PLC to follow Government’s regulations on bulk water users by applying for the licence in order to operate rightfully.

“I hope we enter a good partnership with you by following the due process and doing the necessary things that are supposed to be done,” she said.

Earlier, the Head of Sustainability and Regulatory, Nigerian Breweries PLC, Mr. Chukwuemeka Aniukwu said Nigerian Breweries PLC has been in Nigeria since 1949 and has 9 Breweries across the country.

“We want to build a relationship which is why we are here. We had visits from the Commission to our various Breweries and we want to quickly close ranks and build a strong relationship for our product is 95% water, everything we do is a function of water. We know that this Commission is responsible for the management of water on behalf of Government,” he added.

While giving his welcome address, the Director, Allocation and Authorization, Engineer Shazali Uba Ajingi commended the Nigerian Breweries PLC for taking the right step to partner with the Commission and comply with the Water Resources Acts and Water Use Licence and Regulations.
