The Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein FCCA FCA has charged Federal Pay Officers (FPOs) to fully embrace the Federal Government’s financial management reforms initiative and entrench financial prudence in the discharge of their duties.

She gave the charge at the Federal Pay Office in Kano State during a working visit, in continuation of her tour of Federal Pay Offices in the country.

Dr. Madein, who reaffirmed the commitment of her Office to its mandate, advised the Federal Pay Officers to ensure that Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the States comply with the provisions of the public financial management reforms initiative.

She said it is imperative to seal leakages, halt infractions and improve revenue generation and remittances to guarantee that the federating units received their revenues promptly and that the Federal Government would not be burden by unpaid liabilities.

She noted that the use of manual processes in carrying out financial activities is no longer fashionable, adding that the deployment of modern technology in accounting profession is contemporary, vital and imperative.

She tasked the Federal Pay Officers to be computer literate and be fully acquainted with the current digital and technological trends in order to enhance ether performance and effectiveness.

Dr Madein made known that her Office has commenced the process of establishing enterprise concept management where all activities will be digitalized, adding that the initiative will be extended to the Federal Pay Offices in the States.

She encouraged the Federal Pay Officers to embrace the recently introduced Performance Management System (PMS) policy which, according to her, will replace the Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER) as a means of evaluating staff performance for promotion and rewards.

Speaking Earlier, the Chairman, Committee of Federal Pay Officer (FPOs) in the North West Zone, Aminu Umar, appreciated the Accountant General of the Federation for the visit.

He expressed optimism that the tour, which has enabled the Accountant General of the Federation to have a personal interaction with the staff, is a positive indication of better days for the Federal Pay Offices.
