FIC Report (Edo State) – The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, Salman-Dogo Garba, psc, mnips, has formally retired from the Nigeria Police Force after a distinguished career marked by decades of dedicated, selfless, and exemplary service to the nation.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 5 Headquarters, SP Tijani A. Momoh, anipr, said the retirement, which took effect on July 21, 2026, was commemorated with a colourful Pulling-Out Parade and Send-Forth Ceremony attended by senior serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, heads of sister security agencies, captains of industry, members of the business community, family members, friends, and well-wishers.
Speaking at the ceremony, the retired AIG expressed profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force and enhancing national security.
He also thanked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, and members of the Force Management Team for the confidence reposed in him, as well as the support and guidance they provided throughout his career.
AIG Garba further appreciated the Chairman and members of the Police Service Commission for their commitment to promoting professionalism, accountability, and institutional development within the Nigeria Police Force.
The retired senior police officer also acknowledged the support of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for their cooperation and cordial working relationship with Zone 5 Headquarters during his tenure. According to him, the collaboration between the state governments and the Police contributed significantly to improved security, public safety, and effective policing across Edo and Delta States.
He equally commended the Commissioners of Police, Tactical Commanders, officers and personnel of the Edo and Delta State Police Commands, as well as officers and men of Zone 5 Headquarters, for their loyalty, dedication, teamwork, and commitment to the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
Reflecting on his years in service, AIG Garba described his career as fulfilling and rewarding, noting that the achievements recorded during his tenure were made possible through teamwork, professionalism, and the collective support of colleagues and stakeholders.
He urged officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to remain committed to discipline, professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of citizens’ rights. He also encouraged them to sustain community policing, intelligence-led operations, and ethical leadership in the discharge of their duties.
While appreciating the people of Edo and Delta States for their continued cooperation with the Police, the retired AIG called on members of the public to sustain their support by providing credible and timely information to security agencies to enhance crime prevention and promote safer communities.
Expressing confidence in the future of the Force, AIG Garba stated that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to grow into a more professional, people-centred, and globally respected institution under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police.
The Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, wished the retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police a peaceful, healthy, and fulfilling retirement, while acknowledging his immense contributions to the development of the Nigeria Police Force and the advancement of national security.
