ANAMBRA (FIC Awka) – The Anambra State Government has revealed plans to install internet connectivity at the Jerome Udoji Secreteriat Complex, Awka, so as to upgrade service delivery by workers in the State Civil Service.
The State Head of Service (HOS), Barr Harry Uduh, who disclosed this in his office, regretted non availability of internet facilities at the complex which could be accessed by all workers.
He described internet availability as critical, saying that local area network as well as ‘’Wi-Fi’’ when provided, could be used by workers for internet-related services.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Science and Technology had been mandated to take up the installation of the facility as soon as the on-going renovation work is completed at the complex.
Bar. Uduh added that government would in addition enhance communication network within the complex by installing intercom gadgets in all offices to discourage the trend of frivolous calls on cell phones.
According to him, State Government is no longer comfortable with the rate at which workers spend man hours making or receiving frivolous calls during official work hours.
He pointed out that there must be a business approach to receiving calls by workers who spend hours chatting with friends when visitors are waiting to be attended to.
The HOS attributed the network break or challenges to either the structural design of the complex or quality of cell phones.
He, however assured that government would discuss with network providers to explore means of improving network receptions at the complex.
