Be Patient With FG Over Subsidy Policy, NOA Admonishes Abians

A call has gone to Nigerians to accept the Federal government policy on removal of fuel subsidy as this will have a long time multiple benefits to the economy and the well-being of the nation.

The State Director National Orientation Agency (NOA), Abia State Directorate, Mrs Regina Iroha made the call when she visited the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Amaediaba Nkpa Autonomous community in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, His Royal Majesty, Eze Professor Stephen Emejuaiwe and some motor parks in Umuahia.

Mrs Iroha said the major driving force behind the fuel subsidy removal was the long time positive effect it will have on the economy which will bring healthy competition in the sector thereby bringing down the prices of the product.

The NOA Director affirmed that the removal of the subsidy will bring down inflation, reduce smuggling of the petroleum products, breaking monopoly that has long been enriching the wealthy few in the society.

In his reaction, Professor Stephen Emejuaiwe said the policy is good but emphasized that enough time should have been given to educate the masses on the pros and cons of the policy, considering the negative perception that the masses have about the policy.

The Royal Father also called for a positive approach by the government to cushion the effects of the policy.

At the All-states, Okigwe and Isi gate Motor Parks, Deacon Adimichi Ezeala, Comrade Clement Onyejegbu and David Nwogu called on the government to repair the existing Refineries in the country and reduce the price of fuel. The transporters said the subsidy removal has affected their business negatively.

Also at Aba park, some drivers who spoke urged the federal government to fasten the palliative they promised to give in order to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.
