FIC (Benue State) – The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has ordered security agencies to launch immediate and coordinated operations to dislodge armed herdsmen terrorist camps located in forests across parts of the state.
This was made known in a Press Release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Sir Tersoo Kula on Tuesday 14 April 2026
He said the directive follows recent brutal attacks on communities in Apa and Otukpo Local Government Areas, including Edikwu-Ankpali, Ikobi, Adija, and Upu village, which resulted in multiple fatalities.
Governor Alia described the renewed wave of violence as unacceptable and increasingly complex, noting that the perpetrators have turned forested areas into operational bases for launching attacks on innocent citizens.
He emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of his administration, stressing that the criminal elements must be flushed out without delay.
The Governor has therefore mandated a sustained, intelligence-driven security operation aimed at neutralizing threats and restoring confidence among residents, particularly in the affected communities.
He further assured that the state government is working closely with federal security agencies and will remain resolute until lasting peace is achieved across Benue State.
Governor Alia called on residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security operatives, and provide credible information to support ongoing efforts.
He also commiserated with families who lost their loved ones in the attacks, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to confronting criminality decisively and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
