The honourable minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Dr. Bernard M. Doro at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, has pointed out the great move Nigeria is making in the area of poverty reduction, stating that, the ministry and its stakeholders are working hard to enable vulnerable persons in Nigeria exit poverty for a sustainable development.
The minister pointed this when he conveyed a high level side event as part of the activities taking place at UNGA, with a title “Beyond Assistance:Reducing Poverty, Advancing Protection and Building shared Prosperity” He pointed out that, the ministry had some interventions to enable the vulnerable be lifted out of poverty adding that, the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, through the ministry will continue to focus on.
The minister said vulnerable households also need credible pathways to resilience, self-reliance and shared prosperity.
The side event was conveyed in partnership with Innovations for Poverty Action, an International Organisation for Migration (IOM),IQS and the learning Economic Foundatiion.
Messages came from the United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Hajiya Amina J. Mohammed, represented by Mr Mohamed Yahya, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador, Bianca Odumegwu -Ojukwu, the minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman – Ibrahim, the IOM’s Deputy Director General Operations Ms, Ugochi Daniels and other experts all contributed to the discussions.
They all pointed out that, Humanitarian assistance must save lives.
