FIC Report (Benue State) – The Bonds of Hope Initiative, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, organized a capacity-building workshop for officials of the International Market Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp and staff of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) deployed to the camp.
The training, held at the camp premises in Makurdi, focused on leadership and personal development as key drivers for effective humanitarian response.
Declaring the workshop open, the Founder of the Initiative, Mrs. Apaa Dooshima, said the session was designed to equip participants with essential leadership qualities, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills required to manage people and situations more effectively.
She noted that officials coordinating internally displaced persons must demonstrate compassion, patience, and teamwork to achieve meaningful results.
Mrs. Dooshima further emphasized the importance of building trust among camp residents and staff, adding that good leadership goes beyond issuing instructions — it requires listening, motivating, and inspiring others to work towards shared goals. She encouraged participants to “adopt team members” and mentor one another to sustain a culture of cooperation and empathy within the camp.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, one of the camp officials appreciated the Bonds of Hope Initiative for the timely training, describing it as an eye-opener that will enhance their ability to handle challenges within the camp. He pledged that the lessons learned would be applied to strengthen coordination and improve service delivery to displaced persons.
The Bonds of Hope Initiative is a non-governmental organization committed to promoting human development, psychosocial support, and community resilience, especially among vulnerable groups. Over the years, the organization has collaborated with relevant agencies to support displaced persons and foster sustainable development in Benue State.
