FIC Report (Borno State) – Speaking during an engagement with media professionals and stakeholders in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Wednesday, October 15th declared Borno as Nigeria’s Most resilient state.
The minister was in Maiduguri as part of activities to mark the meeting of the APC Commissioners of Information forum.
Borno, bordered to the west by Yobe, the South west by Gombe and the South by Adamawa is also the only Nigerian state that borders up three Counties, Niger, Chad and Cameron.
With its name taken from the historic Emirate of Borno, the Northeast state which was created in 1976 has faced challenges from the impact of insurgency which followed the emergence of Boko Haram in 2002.
Some of the impacts of the activities of Boko Haram and other splinter cells from the dreaded terrorist of the state, health challenges, destruction of schools, government and private properties across the state.
Recently, the state has also been hit with the worst level of natural disasters like flooding which left several Communities and households across Borno devastated.
However, speaking in Maiduguri, the Honourable Minister of information said Borno State has indeed mastered the art of overcoming challenges.
“Borno State is clearly Nigeria’s Most resilient state, against the backdrop of the Severe Challenges it has experienced in the last decade,” Idris said.
He also stated that the people of Borno State deserve to be praised by every Nigerian for their ability to always bounce back from difficult situations.
The people of Borno State symbolise the strength and the staying power that Nigerians are imbued with, and it is therefore appropriate for all other Nigerians to not only praise the citizens of the state, but speak proudly of their ability to overcome challenges ” Idris added.

Declaring the meeting open, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum mni, represented by his deputy, Dr Umar Usman Kadafur, said the events choice of venue was significant given Borno’s transformation and recovery journey and hope from rehabilitating Communities and reconstructing schools to revitalising our agrarian economy, he said.
Governor Zulum highlighted the state’s 25 year development plan and 10 year strategic Transformation initiative, which he described as blue prints for lasting peace, inclusive growth, and sustainable prosperity.
He urged information commissioner’s to use strategic communication to build public trust, encourage civic participation, and counter misinformation.
The meeting concluded with an inspection tour of key federal and state projects in Borno, including the solar power plant at the University of Maiduguri, the Mohammadu Buhari International Air port upgrade, the Maiduguri mega power plant, Tinubu Mega School and newly constructed Flyovers at Customs, West End and Borno Express.
