BSHOA Receives Nomination For Pension Commission, Condemns Extrajudicial Killings, And Considers Bill On Skills Acquisition Centres

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday, 2nd October 2025, received a correspondence from the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on the nomination of members of the Benue State Pension Commission.

Reading the letter during plenary, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, announced the nominees as:

Mr. M. Nicholas – Chairman

Mrs. Lucy Ato – Member

Mr. Asen Sambe – Member

Mrs. Elizabeth Edeh – Member

The Speaker directed the nominees to forward their Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the House Standing Committee on Rules and Business for further consideration.

In another development, the House strongly condemned the recent incidents of extrajudicial killings in the state, particularly the tragic cases involving Fanen Kpenteman and unarmed mourners in Jato Aka. The Assembly resolved to:

Call on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate all reported cases and bring culprits to justice.

Strengthen oversight and ensure human rights compliance among security personnel.

Establish a Standing Judicial Panel to address police brutality and extrajudicial killings.

Urge the Federal Government to retrain and properly equip the police for professional conduct.

The Assembly also deliberated on the plight of Adum Community in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, which has been devastated by gully erosion. It resolved to:

Urge the Benue State Government to grade the Adum road for better access.

Collaborate with relevant agencies to find a sustainable solution to the erosion problem.

Furthermore, a motion for a Bill to Establish Benue State Skills Acquisition Training Centres in the Three Senatorial Districts was presented by Hon. Isaac Ochekliye Agbo, member representing Ohimini State Constituency. The bill seeks to address rising unemployment and the shortage of skilled manpower in the state. The motion was seconded by Hon. Abu Umoru of Apa State Constituency.

In his closing remarks, Speaker Emberga reaffirmed that the Benue State House of Assembly remains committed to addressing the challenges facing the state and its citizens, and will continue to work towards promoting peace, security, and development.
