ABUJA – (Code of Conduct Tribunal Report) – The Chief Justice of the Federation, Walter S. Onnoghen (Justice) has on Monday 19th of November 2018 administered the Oath of Office to Julie Abieyuwa Amabor (Justice) as a member of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Speaking shortly after administering the Oath at the Supreme Court Complex in Abuja, the Chief Justice of Nigeria remarked that there is an on- going effort to bring the CCT under the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) to enable it function effectively and efficiently and to foster good governance in the country. He urged the new member to be above board in her decisions and live by the judicial oath she has taken. He also advised her to always be persuaded by the superior decision of the appellate Court in making resolutions.

The Chief Justice of the Federation warned Judges to avoid any act that will create negative perceptions on the conduct of Judicial Officers which he said may cast doubt on the integrity of the institution. He admonished the new member to be a team player in carrying out her work.

Onnoghen said the fact that the process of appointing the new member has taken too long does not mean that the NJC is not concerned about the importance of the CCT, saying it is rather that the sensitivity of the appointment which draw attentions had to be listened to and scrutinized. He urged her to always stand by her conscience, no matter whose ox is being gored.

Present at the occasion were the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Y. Umar (Justice) and William Agwadza Atedze (Justice) who is an Honourable Member of the Tribunal, together with the CCT management staff to witness the event.
