The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Swiss Confederation, His Excellency Wahab A. Akande, presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, at the Federal Palace in Bern on 08 September 2026.
The presentation marked an important milestone in Ambassador Akande’s diplomatic engagement in Switzerland and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Swiss Confederation.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Akande conveyed the warm greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to President Parmelin. He expressed his readiness to work closely with the Swiss authorities to advance bilateral relations and promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, development cooperation, culture, education and innovation.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of expanding economic and development cooperation between both countries, while exploring new opportunities for stronger institutional, commercial and people-to-people partnerships.
He further highlighted the Nigeria-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations as an important framework for regular diplomatic engagement, noting that the mechanism provides a valuable platform for reviewing bilateral relations, advancing shared interests and identifying new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Ambassador Akande reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to constructive dialogue and closer collaboration with Switzerland on issues of common interest. He expressed confidence that his tenure would contribute to further deepening the cordial relations between the two countries.
The ceremony underscored Nigeria’s continued commitment to fostering a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial partnership with the Swiss Confederation in furtherance of shared interests and common aspirations.
