Contribute to national discourse, AGF urges pensioners.

Accountant –General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris has called on Pensioners in the country to ensure that they contribute meaningfully to all issues affecting the growth and development of the nation.

Mr. Idris made this call today in Abuja while receiving members of the Association of contributory pensioners of Nigeria, who were at the Treasury on a courtesy visit.

“Your Association is made up seasoned experts and professionals in all aspects of nation’s life, as such, it is a platform for advocacy not only for the members but for the entire nation. You should have a say in all matters affecting the nation, given your experiences and qualifications, you definitely have a role to play in deciding what happens in the nation.” the Accountant –General of the Federation maintained.

He pledged the support of the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to the association by partnering with them in the area of training and capacity development, saying it will enable the retirees offer their experiences to mentoring and training the staff of the Treasury to improve on their competencies and efficiency on the job.

Mr. Ahmed Idris also commended the members of the association for championing the cause of the Pensioners in the country and urged them not to relent but to ensure that they use all legitimate means to draw the attention of the government to the plight of the pensioners in the Country.

Earlier, the President of the Association Chief U.C. Ekpo, informed the AGF, that they were at the Treasury to thank him for the support he has shown them and to brief him on their preparations to hold a symposium in Abuja.

According to him the symposium which will hold in October, 2017 will feature the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as the special guest of honour and is expected to address issues bothering on the plight of the Nigerian pensioners.

The Association of   Contributory Pensioners of Nigeria is the umbrella body for all retired public servants in Nigeria irrespective of profession or field.
