FIC Report (Delta State) – In compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, to enhance operational efficiency, discipline and accountability, the Delta State Police Command under the leadership of CP. Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips,  has established a specialised Violent Complaint Response Unit (VCRU) as part of a broader restructuring of its operational framework. The creation of the VCRU is a key component of this reorganisation.

According to a press statement by the Command’s image maker,SP. Bright Edafe, the CP stated that “the VCRU is designed to handle violent and high-risk complaints, including threats to life, grievous assault, domestic violence, and other related offences requiring urgent police intervention. The Unit will function as a rapid response and coordination platform, working in synergy with Divisions and Tactical teams to ensure prompt and professional handling of such incidents.”

The statement added that as part of the take-off process, selected personnel nominated into the Unit underwent a three-day intensive retraining programme. During the training, the Commissioner of Police personally addressed the officers, charging them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

The personnel were also taken through series of key lectures, including sessions delivered by the officer in charge of the Legal Department, who provided guidance on legal frameworks, use of force and compliance with extant laws. In addition, the officers were retrained on arms handling, musketry and the lawful use of firearms, with emphasis on responsibility, restraint, and operational safety.

The CP emphasised that the reforms are aimed at deepening professional policing and restoring public confidence, while ensuring that violent incidents are responded to swiftly and effectively. He warned that negligence, misconduct, or abuse of human rights will not be tolerated.

The statement further noted that the Commissioner of Police has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Tactical Units to give full support to the VCRU and ensure that all referrals were treated with urgency and in accordance with established procedures.

The CP assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged members of the public to promptly report incidents of violence through official police channels stressing that Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to deliver efficient, responsive and people-centred policing across the State.
