Delta State Government has commenced the distribution of palliatives earlier received from the Federal Government.

The palliatives were meant to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on the masses earlier announced by the Federal Government.

Addressing members of the Committee set up by the State Government, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, charged those in charge to share the items to the people in a transparent manner and ensure that the exercise was devoid of political affiliation.

He noted that so far the State Government has received 13,500 bags of rice and #2billion for disbursement as palliatives to residents of the State irrespective of party affiliation.

The SSG further stated that the palliatives should be handed over to persons at community and ward levels and admonished the Committee members to ensure that the palliatives get to the target persons. He added that a Monitoring Committee was already in place to monitor the sharing of the items.

Dr. Emu further assured the people that the State Government was not indifferent to the hardship the masses were facing adding that the Rt. Hon. Oborevwori led administration also has other cushioning measures aimed at addressing high transportation cost and also granting soft loans to Small Scale business operators.

Responding, Chairman of the Committee Mr. John Kelvin Maduka, thanked the State Government for considering them worthy to serve the State in that capacity while assuring the SSG that the items would be fairly distributed to everyone.

The Committee Chairman further thanked Governor Oborevwori for the trust placed on them and stressed that the items would be distributed to the people transparently.
