General Services Department is one of the newly established departments in the Ministry. It is responsible for institutionalising a maintenance culture in the Ministries, Departments and Agency (MDAs) on a sustainable basis. The purpose of the Department is to coordinate the management and maintenance of all assets of the Ministry.

In institutionalise maintenance culture with a view to minimizing waste.

To use cost effective means in ensuring that government assets are maintained and serviced at regular intervals.

DIVISION

(a) Maintenance Services
(b) Plant and Equipment
(c) Utility Service (Telephones, PBX, Bills, etc)

TRANSPORT DIVISION
(a) The responsibility of the transport section is to facilitate the movement of staff and services regarding the operation of the Ministry;
(b) In charge of all the vehicles in the Ministry;
(c) To carry out maintenance, servicing and fuelling of the Ministry’s vehicles;
(d) To handle registration of newly purchased vehicles and other registration matters
(e) The unit arrange and carry out repairs on vehicles.

OFFICE ALLOCATION DIVISION
(a) Provision of photocopier machines for the Ministry;
(b) Insertion of identification mark;
(c) Clearing of parking lot, weeding, clearing grasses;
(d) Servicing of fire extinguisher;
(d) Sanitation of the environment.

STORE DIVISION
(a) To ensure that the goods ordered are received accordingly to specification and recorded in the stores ledger as appropriate;
(b) To keep and store goods in appropriate condition in order to avoid unnecessary depreciation;
(c) Issue to user department with appropriate and authorized store requisition (SR);
(d) Progression of store issues so that items of old stock are issued before new stock;
(e) Existence and observation of security regulations
