The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to moving vulnerable Nigerians from aid dependency to self-reliance through sustainable empowerment programmes and strategic partnerships.
The Minister gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) named: Am the Future of Nigeria (IFON) Youth Initiative, led by its Executive Director, Mrs. Noni Okocha, at his office in Abuja.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Doro emphasized that, the Ministry’s mandate is centred on serving the poor and vulnerable ,stressing that, his passion for humanitarian service continues to drive ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s poverty reduction architecture.
He reiterated the Ministry’s flagship vision of “One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS),” which seeks to harmonize humanitarian and poverty reduction interventions into a coordinated framework that delivers lasting solutions rather than repeated aid.
According to him, the initiative is designed to create poverty graduation pathways that empower beneficiaries with skills, opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
The Minister commended IFON Youth Initiative for transforming the lives of the internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly through the success story of OG Abbah, the Musician, whom he described as a shining example of what is possible when vulnerable persons are empowered with the right opportunities.
He encouraged the young beneficiary to remain focused, continue learning and strive for greater achievements, assuring the delegation of the Ministry’s support in promoting initiatives that showcases the talents and resilience of displaced persons.
Dr. Doro also expressed his willingness to partner with them to support the vulnerable.
Earlier, Executive Director of IFON Youth Initiative, Mrs. Noni Okocha, highlighted the Organisation’s decade-long humanitarian interventions among internally displaced persons, noting that OG Abbah’s remarkable transformation from displacement to global recognition, demonstrates the impact of sustained empowerment and mentorship.
She appealed for the Ministry’s partnership in the organisation’s forthcoming international engagements, including activities in the United Kingdom to commemorate World Humanitarian Day and to show case OG Abba’s talent, she sought the Ministry’s support in promoting humanitarian values, youth empowerment and positive narratives about displaced persons.
