Edo State Launches 100MW Power Plant and LNG Facility, Aiming to Boost Industrial Growth

FIC Report (Edo State) – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has announced ongoing efforts by his Administration to foster a Business-Friendly Environment that promotes manufacturing, Employment, and Sustainable Economic Development.

The Governor made the disclosure at Ologbo in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State while performing a groundbreaking ceremony for the establishment of a 100MW Power Generating Plant and 300 Metric Tons Per Day LNG Facility, Taihu Industrial Park in Ologbo.

Addressing Attendees, Governor Okpebholo highlighted that the Projects mark significant milestones in Edo’s Journey toward Industrial Expansion, Energy Security, and Economic Transformation. He emphasized that these developments would bring prosperity to residents and facilitate increased cooperation with Investors.

“We are pleased that such investments are happening in our time. We do not sign fake Memoranda of Understanding but adhere strictly to the law to develop Edo State,” he stated. “This groundbreaking signifies our commitment to Industrial Growth and Energy Security. I welcome CCETC, whose confidence in Edo as an investment destination is evident.”

The Governor recounted how the State swiftly embraced the Project, offering Free Land to facilitate Investment, reinforcing Edo’s reputation as a proactive and Investor-friendly environment. He also reassured that the state’s system ensures accountability, emphasizing that the Administration prioritizes Systemic Integrity over probing individual actors.

President Bola Tinubu’s belief that power is the backbone of Industrialization was also highlighted, with Gov. Okpebholo affirming that the power plant would help create an Ecosystem conducive to manufacturing, Job Creation, and Sustainable Growth in Edo State.

He urged the host Community to continue demonstrating hospitality and support for the project, emphasizing the importance of peace and cooperation. The governor reassured investors of Edo’s commitment to protecting their investments and providing an enabling environment for business.

In his welcomed Address, The Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman Hon. Eric Osawaru described the groundbreaking as a significant milestone for the Area and Nigeria’s Energy Sector, illustrating how visionary leadership and private investment can drive development. He added that the Project would generate Jobs, Skills, and Community Empowerment.

Edo State’s Commissioner for Power, Paul Usebor, described the projects as critical steps toward transforming Edo into a hub for reliable power, industrial growth, and sustainable development. He noted that the 100MW plant would strengthen Electricity Supply, while the LNG facility would enhance cleaner energy utilization.

Jiang Fan, representing MD Taihu, assured that the Ossiomo Power Plant’s shutdown was temporary and that the new facility, expected to be operational within six months, would ensure reliable Power for Industries and Communities.

Phase one of the Taihu Benin Industrial Park, covering 29 hectares in Ologbo, is developed by CCETC, which also serves as the main contractor. Once completed, these projects are expected to bolster regional energy stability and industrial progress, positioning Edo as a key player in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
