FIC Report (Ekiti State) – Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council has activated a Situation Room ahead of Saturday’s June 20, 2026 governorship election to monitor the safety of Journalists and counter the spread of misinformation.
NUJ Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi said in a statement that the situation room is domiciled at the NUJ Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti. “It will serve as a rapid-response centre for Journalists covering the poll”, he said.
Babatuyi reiterated that the centre will track incidents of harassment, intimidation or attacks on Journalists during the election.
He noted that the initiative became necessary because fake news and disinformation have become potent tools to manipulate voters and inflame tensions during elections.
According to him, the situation room will work with fact-checking partners and media stakeholders to verify viral claims, correct false narratives in real time, and provide Journalists with verified information for accurate reporting.
