FIC Report (Borno State) – The Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas, had deployed a team of experts to Maiduguri to address the environmental challenges caused by the recent flood disaster in the area.
The team, which includes specialists in pollution management, environmental sustainability, and disaster response, will work closely with the Borno State government to assess the situation and provide necessary support.
During a condolence visit to Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Abbas expressed his sympathy for the losses suffered by the people of the state.
“The tragic loss of lives, displacement of thousands of families, and destruction of homes, farmlands, and critical infrastructure which have caused much hardship on the government and people of Borno,” he said.
Abbas commended Governor Zulum for his leadership in handling the calamity and assured that the ministry will provide all necessary support to Borno in its recovery efforts.
“We are bringing all the resources of the ministry to Borno to stay and address the aftermath of this flood”.
“We will work closely with the state government to provide technical and logistical support to address the challenges posed by this unfortunate event.” He said.
Governor Zulum appreciated the ministry’s show of concern and called for sustainable solutions to the issue of the dam and desertification facing the state.
He also sought the minister’s support in addressing the problem of elephants destroying farmlands in some local governments.
“We need sustainable solutions to these environmental challenges to prevent future occurrences,” he said.
