The SERVICOM Office has reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery across the public sector as it convened the 2nd Quarter National Council of Nodal Officers Meeting at the Conference Hall of the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA), Abuja.

Declaring the meeting open on 18th June 2026, the Acting National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal, welcomed participants and commended Nodal Officers for their dedication to promoting service excellence in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) despite prevailing funding challenges. According to her, “Your resilience and commitment to driving service delivery improvements in your MDAs, despite limited resources, demonstrate your dedication to the SERVICOM mandate. We must continue to work together to ensure that citizens receive the quality service they deserve.”

Mrs. Lawal explained that the meeting was convened to update officers on the achievements, ongoing activities, future programmes and strategic direction of the SERVICOM Office. She further urged participants to pay close attention to all presentations, particularly the session on the Charter Performance Reporting Template. “Effective reporting is critical to measuring our impact and showcasing the progress being made across government institutions. I encourage all Nodal Officers to fully understand the reporting framework and utilize it effectively,” she stated.

A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation by the Head of SERVICOM Operations, Mrs. Ngozi Akinbodewa, who provided a practical demonstration on the proper completion of the Charter Performance Reporting Template. She emphasized the importance of reporting service delivery outcomes that align with organizational service charters and encouraged participants to become more familiar with the reporting framework to avoid underreporting achievements and impact. “The template is designed to capture measurable service delivery outcomes. We must ensure that the work being done in our institutions is adequately documented and reported,” she noted.

The Head of the SERVICOM Institute, Mr. Casmir Igwe, reported that the Institute successfully conducted two capacity-building programmes during the first half of 2026 in line with its approved training calendar. The programmes, held in Enugu and Akwanga, Nasarawa State, focused on Effective Leadership and Stakeholder Management and Improving Organisational Performance, attracting a combined total of 369 participants. He disclosed that the next training programme had been rescheduled from July to August to allow MDAs sufficient time to process participation requests. Mr. Igwe further revealed that preparations were underway for the 2026 international exchange programme, which would focus on global benchmarking and peer learning. “The exchange programme will provide participants with an opportunity to learn global best practices and adapt innovative service delivery approaches to the Nigerian public service,” he said.

The meeting also received a report from the Public Awareness Unit, presented by the Public Awareness Manager, Mr. Aderemi Adelabu. The report highlighted the Unit’s continued efforts in promoting citizens’ rights to quality service through strategic communication and stakeholder engagement. Between April and June 2026, the Unit attended to 156 service failure complaints from citizens, responded to 56 official emails, coordinated communications with MDAs, provided media coverage for key SERVICOM activities, submitted the 2025 Annual SERVICOM Report to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and issued six press releases. Reaffirming the Unit’s commitment, Mr. Adelabu stated that “service is the right of every citizen, and we will continue to amplify this message while strengthening public awareness and citizen engagement across all platforms.”

On the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Mrs. Lucy Zach-Ukoh informed participants that Nigeria joined global stakeholders in commemorating the 2026 Open Government Week under the theme, “Reflect, Rethink, and Redouble Collective Efforts.” She disclosed that Nigeria’s National Action Plan IV (2026–2029) had been approved by the National Steering Committee and was awaiting presidential assent. According to her, “Once the Action Plan receives approval, MDAs will be adequately briefed on their commitments and SERVICOM’s role in supporting implementation and accountability.”
