The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, said the implementation of Executive Order 003 would enhance the economy and save foreign exchange for the country.
Gen. Dambazau stated this when he received the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, who was in the Ministry to display some Made-in-Nigeria products for use by the Services under the Ministry.
He further said that Executive Order 003, which requires all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to grant preference to local manufacturers of goods and service providers in their procurement of goods and services, would serve to create jobs, especially for the youth, and generate wealth.
While pledging the commitment of the Ministry to the implementation of the Executive Order, the Minister however noted the necessity for government to partner with the private sector to boost local production.
He disclosed that the Ministry has the largest market for uniforms produced in Nigeria, considering the staff strength of its Services – Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and pledged to support the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in its quest to implement the Order.
Earlier, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar, had solicited the support of Ministry of Interior in the implementation of the Executive Order 003, which deals with giving preference to local contents for goods and services, particularly Made-in-Nigeria goods. She said the Ministry was important to the Made-in-Nigeria campaign, and urged the Services under the Ministry to dress their personnel in uniforms and boots and other items produced in the country.
She urged the Ministry of Interior to use her staff strength to procure uniforms, foot wears, berets and other items produced in the country for use.
