The Federal Government through the office of the Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, has delivered a 149-bed material and Child center, to Lagos State.
Representing the Wife of the President , Mrs Ashia Buhari at the commissioning, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on administration , Mrs Ajoh Sanni, called for more effort from the private sector to support government in combating the challenges of maternal mortality rate, while explaining that the facility would help reduce the rate of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.
In his remark, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanw-Olu, disclosed that his government has set a six-year target towards making universal health coverage accessible in the state, which they would work on to achieve by 2025.
Going further, the Governor stated that the Igando maternal and child care center which was cited in the most populous area of the State would further reduce maternal and child mortality rate, adding that it will also complement output of existing health care facilities in the state in providing quality health care of nursing mothers and newborns.
Also, Mr. Sanw-Olu reported that at the concluded United Nations General Assembly, they made a commitment to fast track the process to meet the sustainable development goal.
While appreciating the Federal government for considering Lagos State as one of the states to benefit from the project, he explained that health care delivery was a key pillar in his administration’s development agenda.
The Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwolu, in her response lauded federal government for the initiative and appreciated the positive interest the facility would have on the ongoing efforts of the state government in repositioning health care delivery for top-notch service to people
In summary, the Commissioner for health, Mr Akin Abayomi, narrated that the 149–bed material and child center is fitted with state of art facilities such as vacuum machine, diathermy machine, Oxygen generating machine, suction machine double jar, patient monitors with ECOZ,of operating theatres, recovering rooms, sterilization room, delivery room, consulting room, private and general wards , Scanning room and side laboratories.
Prof. Abayomi, further said the location of the facility would enable 3.5 Million residents of Alimosho to receive quality health care and reduce referral to other health facilities.
