The Federal Government has called on the youths to work together for a peaceful society. The call was made by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire in Abuja.
The Presidential Aide, while welcoming participants to the ‘National Peace and Unity Conference’ held recently in Abuja, urged the youth to work closely with her office to build a peaceful society.
Emphasizing on the theme of the conference – Best Practices in Peace Building, Crisis Management and Youths Empowerment in a Democratic Dispensation – Princess Adejoke said “the conference is coming at a critical time in our nationhood as we aim at greater inclusion of youths in issues of peace and security”.
She explained that, the SDGs are a universal call to action to end poverty, safeguard the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by the year 2030.
She said that, the SDGs work on the strength of partnership and pragmatism to make the necessary choices to improve livelihood in a sustainable way. She noted that the conference is aimed at promoting goal 16 of the SDGs which seeks to “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels”.
She charged the youths to support the federal government’s efforts in tackling issues hindering peaceful coexistence, and work towards peace building for national development.
In his address, the National President and Dean, Student Affairs, Anambra state university Awka, Professor Stanley Udedi encouraged the youths to use their intellectual abilities to be creative and industrious in order to survive.
He pleaded with the leaders in the society to train and build the younger ones to succeed them, adding that for any leader to succeed, he must have a formidable team that can build on whatever is laid down.
He commended the organizers, Mobzenix Enterprise for collaborating with government to ‘preach and practice peace’.
Participants were mainly youths from higher institutions, the academia, public and private sectors.
