The Managing Director/CEO of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) Engr. Nuruddeen A. Rafindadi, FNSE, FA Eng, FNAHS recently embarked on tour for inspection of the extent of work on the special repairs of Multala Muhammed bridge Km. 27+000, Koton-Karfe, along Lokoja – Abuja road in Kogi State and that of the Emergency repairs of failed sections between Ch. 23+500 – Ch.27+500 along Okene – Ibillo road (Edo State Border) in Kogi State.

The Federal highway along Okene – Ibillo road became impassable to motorists as the affected sections cut into two due to heavy rainfall that ravaged some part of the state causing severe hardship on the users who had to take an alternate route.
The quick intervention of the Agency has saved the situation from further deterioration as work on the affected sections has reached an advanced stage which has restored free flow of traffic to the area.

The work being carried out at this section involves site clearing, scarification of failed sections, provision of double pipe 900mm cross culvert, provision of stone base, laterite fillings on collapsed sections, provision of asphalt wearing course on carriageway, shoulders, failed sections and overlay.

The Managing Director earlier had a stopover at the Multala Muhammed bridge so as to inspect the work been carried out on the bridge and its base.
He expressed satisfaction on the level of work done so far on both sections he enjoined the contractors to ensure the speedy completion of the work.

While responding to a question, Engr. Nuruddeen A. Rafindadi said the reinforcement and expansion works will extend the life span of the bridge thereby ensuring safety of all commuters. He added that the incessant traffic and accidents on the bridge will be averted.
The MD pledged to effectively uphold FERMA’s vision of efficiently administering road maintenance with the objective of keeping all federal roads in good, safe, passable and comfortable condition for the best value in road transport.
